The 2006 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe literally bristles with tons of pure energy and class. Freshly cut flowers, violets, mint and plums all burst from the glass in this deeply expressive, powerful Barolo. Tar, licorice, smoke and incense all develop in the glass, adding further gravitas to this already dark, layered, hulking Riserva. Readers will have to be exceedingly patient here! Drink: 2021 - 2041

Cavallotto is a family owned and operated Italian wine producer in the Piemonte region. The family are the sole owners of the Bricco Bosschis cru in the Castiglione Falletto district, from which they produce a Barolo and two Barolo Riservas. The Cavallotto family have been growing Nebbiolo since 1929 and bottling their own under the Cavallotto label since 1948. The winery philosophy is to maintain a traditional style of Barolo through the use of modern viticultural and winemaking practices, never releasing a wine until it has matured perfectly. The wines are highly acclaimed and consistently receive 90+ scores from Robert Parker’s wine advocate and Antonio Galloni. “Cavallotto may very well be the greatest Barolo producer few people have ever heard of, something that continues to mystify me. Truth is, it isn’t just the Barolos here that are impressive, the entry-level wines are every bit as delicious and well-priced…Readers who appreciate a firm, classic style of Barolo will want to spend some time getting to know Cavallotto.” -Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate and Vinous Media
