Approaching perfection, this wine is inky, bluish/purple-colored to the rim, offering up notes of incense, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, licorice, graphite and spring flowers. A touch of roasted espresso bean is also present. The wine has great concentration, a magnificent, full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning purity, and well-integrated acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood. This beauty seems to be in mid-adolescence with at least 25-30 years of life ahead.|||The Boüard family, the proprietors of Château Angelus, date from 1544 in St.-Emilion. Located on lower hillsides, with a southerly exposure, their 67-acre vineyard, composed of sandstone, limestone and clay, is planted with 47% Cabernet Franc, 50% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon.| Hubert de Boüard, who single-handedly elevated the quality from one of mediocrity (vintages such as 1978, 1982, 1983, and 1985 were disappointing), hit pay dirt with his efforts starting in 1988. Since then, there has been a remarkable succession of great wines.| Radical viticulture such as crop-thinning, shoot-positioning and the immensely labor-intensive manual destemming are employed. Both a second and third wine are made, as the selection process for Angelus is severe. All of this resulted in the 2012 Angelus being upgraded, along with Pavie, to Premier Grand Cru Classé A, joining Cheval Blanc and Ausone as one of only four estates in St.-Emilion to receive this accolade.| Aging takes place in 100% new oak for 18-24 months, after which the wine is bottled with neither fining nor filtration. | eRobertParker.com.August, 2015

Out of this world. Incredible aromas of crushed blackberries and cherries, with wet earth, mineral and mint. Full-bodied, with fantastically refined, silky tannins and a long, long finish. Terrific. Greatest Angelus I have ever tasted. Best after 2010. 7,080 cases made. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2003

Exceptionally deep crimson. Rather attractively ethereal topnotes on a solid core of ripeness. Very attractive package - vivacious modern wine that offers great intensity and richness without being aggressively sweet or hot. It has still got a long way to go but it can certainly deliver pleasure already. Neat and very bright and bushy- tailed.www.jancisrobinson.com, 18 Mar 2010

Classed as a St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A with Châteaux Pavie , Ausone and Cheval Blanc, Château Angélus is one of the leading estates in St Emilion and one of the finest wines of Bordeaux. Controlled by Hubert de Bouard since the 1985 vintage, it is a reliably excellent source of top St Emilion, regularly praised by the critics, notably Robert Parker.

The vineyards, planted to 51% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, are situated on “côtes”: this is the best soils of St Emilion with clay and limestone subsoils. Neighbours include F+R favourite Château Canon and Jonathan Maltus’ Le Dôme.

The quality at Château Angélus has only been at the very highest level since Hubert de Bouard took control in 1985. Climate-controlled cellars were constructed, high levels of vineyard management implemented, and modern – which is to say clean, precise and controlled – winemaking methods introduced. The rewards of this were first seen with the brilliant 1989 and 1990 vintages, though the estate reached new heights in the 21st century: 2010, 2009, 2005, 2003 and 2000 Château Angélus are all wines that are close to perfect.
