We are now down to our final cases of Giodo's excellent Brunello di Montalcino 2011. A 'great' 96 point wine from an exciting, up and coming winery, this Brunello is not to be missed.
This impressed everyone in both our London and Hong Kong office tastings: the excellent purity of fruit and intense concentration are remarkable for a vintage where many winemakers struggled, setting the 2011 Giodo firmly apart from the crowd.
This is a pet project and 'private wine' of one of Italy's most respected consultants Carlo Ferrini, a former Wine Enthusiast Winemaker of the Year and the consultant of Casanova di Neri . Giodo’s inaugural 2010 vintage was one of the standouts from an amazing year and was last seen trading at £600 per six. It is now completely sold out on the open market – and the 2011 looks set to go the same way.
There is only a tiny amount to spread across insatiable global markets and collectors who have embraced the top wines of 2011 Brunello. This will disappear quickly and, as we are the only merchant in Europe to currently have a direct allocation, finding it again in future may well be impossible.
