Giacomo Grimaldi’s 2012 Barolos have just been released and keep up a tradition of serious quality at very reasonable prices. Just tasted in the office and confirmed as sensationally good, the micro-production flagship Barolo ‘Le Coste’ is simply a sensational buy.
Just 300 cases of the Le Coste are made from a single vineyard in Barolo. This is a tiny number on a par with many of the rarest of the Burgundy Grand Crus and even smaller than the likes of even Petrus or Le Pin in Bordeaux. Few will ever get the chance to own this wine, which is a shame as it is absolutely gorgeous Barolo.
The purity of the fruit is just outstanding and a real trademark of the style of the house. It gives the Le Coste a majestic profile that can be a match for the best in the regions and yet still offers remarkable value despite the quality and rarity.
