Tipped by Australian expert James Halliday as a “top notch successor to the acclaimed ‘12” and boasting a brilliant 97 points, the 2013 Shaw + Smith Shiraz is an unmissable buy.

The 2012 won “Best Australian Red” in the 2014 International Wine Challenge and the 2013 looks set to follow in its footsteps. With 97 points from James Halliday but priced at just under £17 a bottle in bond it offers truly spectacular value for money - especially for a wine that has repeatedly earned brilliant reviews across the board and was named by Decanter as the "Best Australian Red Rhone Varietal" in 2009.

Shaw & Smith make their wines in the relatively cool climate of the Adelaide Hills. This gives them depth, complexity and a structure not often found in this part of the world. As Jancis Robinson comments, it has “More than a hint of a very good St-Joseph”; high praise indeed.
