Although slightly over shadowed by the concurrent release of Château d’Yquem 2015, we would draw your attention to “Y” d'Yquem 2015. Although yet to be scored by the critics, produced in a vintage of the quality of 2015, it is sure to be a hit.
"Y" or Ygrec, is the luxury dry cuvée produced by Château d’Yquem, one of the world’s most famous wine estates. This extremely rare wine - only 10,000 bottles are produced each year - is made from special plots of Sauvignon Blanc and from Semillon grapes picked at the fleeting moment that they begin to botrytise, i.e. the skins turn pink. Aged in oak, one third new and the remaining two-thirds old Yquem barrels.
"Y” d’Yquem 2015 hails from what the late Denis Dubourdieu called a "tremendous" year for dry Bordeaux whites. Wine Spectator said that “Dry whites look very, very strong, with Sauvignon Blanc harvested under ideal conditions." Combine that with the fact that Bill Blatch called it “a dream vintage for Sauternes” and you have an exquisitely balanced wine with laser-like acidity and exotic elements of the finest Sauternes.
Having been lucky enough to try this in the FINE+RARE office we can confirm that it is a fascinating and complex wine and one of the finest young Ygrecs we've ever tasted. And this an excellent opportunity to add magnums of this rare wine to your collection. At time of writing these were priced at £198 per magnum in bond. To request a magnum click here to email us.
This dry white Bordeaux has real exclusivity, not only due to its pedigree, but also due to its rarity, which keeps it relatively under-the-radar, the preserve of savvy, in-the-know collectors who buy on release...
