Chateau de Rayne Vigneau is located in the Sauternes appellation on a ridge built up of sandy gravel over a clay base. The vineyard covers 197 acres with 74% Semillon, 24% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle vines, which have an average age of 30 years.
Picking is carried out by hand in successive selections made on the vines, so that each grape is picked only when it has been perfectly "botrytised". The grapes are then hand sorted, followed by a delicate pressing. The final wines are matured in oak barrels, of which 40-50% are new each year.
