
Second Growth Chateau Rauzan-Gassies is located in the Margaux appellation, in the communes of Margaux and Cantenac. The vineyards are planted over 28.5 hectares on soils composed of deep gravel, gravelly sand and sand. The vines are a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, with an average age of 35 years.
The final wine is aged for at least 12 months in oak in at least 30% new French oak barrels. The maturation period and ratio of new oak barrels to old depend on which plot and grape variety is used to make the wine. Blending begins after 6 months by careful tasting and analysis, clarifying with egg white.
