One of the four wines to achieve First Growth status as part of the Bordeaux Classification of 1885, Chateau Margaux is a distinguished wine from the Medoc region. 

On average, Chateau Margaux produces approximately 150,000 bottles of the Grand Vin each year. Additionally, the estate's second wine, Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux, exceeds 200,000 bottles. Chateau Margaux also produces a dry white wine called Pavillon Blanc du Chateau Margaux. Around 35,000 bottles of this wine are produced every year.

Chateau Margaux is located in the Medoc region of Bordeaux, in the commune of Margaux and on the banks of the Garonne estuary.

The estate has 82 hectares under vine with much of the vineyard planted on the gravelly terroir with clay subsoil that surrounds the main house. There are also other plots of vines scattered around the area. The vines, which average between 30 and 40 years of age, include the four common Bordeaux varieties: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 3% Canernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The white vineyards of Chateau Margaux are solely Sauvignon Blanc.

Chateau Margaux is renowned for its sheer class and perfumed elegance. Winemaker Paul Pontallier believes that these characteristics are down to using predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon in his blends, especially the Grand Vin. Fermentation takes place in oak vats, then Chateau Margaux is aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak.
