Chateau Leoville Poyferre is located in the Saint Julien appellation spread over 80 hectares. The vineyards are planted on thin Garonne gravel soil with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc.
The harvest plan is determined by constant examinations of the grapes to ensure perfect phenolic ripeness. Harvesting is then conducted by hand, then sorted by hand before crushing. Different plots and grape varieties are vatted separately in stainless steel vats. Wines are aged in oak barrels for 18-20 months (80% new French oak). Chateau Leoville Poyferre and its second wine Chateau Moulin Riche are fined with egg white in the barrel, before blending and bottling. Average annual production is 220,000 bottles.
