Le Pin

Chateau Le Pin is the ultimate in exclusive luxury: rarer than Petrus and Lafite, it is considered one of the jewels in the Pomerol crown.

In 1979 Jacques Thienpoint, scion of the famous Thienpoint family who own Vieux-Chateau-Certan, struck out alone to purchase a tiny rundown estate in Pomerol as he was so convinced of its merits. The resulting wine was named Le Pin and the rest, as they say, is history.

The driving force behind Le Pin’s high prices is its rarity as well as its quality. Only 600 to 700 cases are produced each year (in contrast to Lafite which makes 15,000 to 20,000 cases and Petrus with 2,500 cases). Le Pin is often compared to the top Burgundies, like La Tache, because of its rich, opulent, fruit-driven style and low quantities.
