Overlooking the Gironde estuary, Chateau Lynch Bages is located on the outskirts of Pauillac, on the plateau de Bages, one of the most beautifully gravelly rises in the appellation. There are 100 hectares under vine, with 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot vines planted on Garonne gravel. The wines of Chateau Lynch Bages are blended mostly from Cabernet Sauvignon.
For the reds, fermentation is temperature-controlled with extensive 'remontage' to ensure concentration and depth of colour. A special system of pipes transfers the wine from the cuves to the oak barriques (70% new) where it matures for 12-18 months.
The second wine of Chateau Lynch Bages is Echo de Lynch Bages. Made using the estate’s youngest vines, this tends to represent 25-40% of the harvest, depending on the vintage. A higher proportion of Merlot and Cabernet Franc than the Grand Vin is used in the final blend creating a wine with soft tannins, light oakiness and good complexity.
