From January to mid-March Clos Fourtet had long periods of frost, then the end of March was fresh with a lot of rain. A very dry April slowed the growth of vegetation. From 17 June to 10 September, there was no significant rain. This vintage is characterised by little rain (580 mm) and a post flowering drought though without excess heat.
Vine maturation was slow and varied according to different terroirs, so the harvest was staggered over a long period working to collect the grapes of at peak maturity. Harvest of Merlots was from 30 September to 18 October; the Cabernets from 18 to 21 October.
Maturation: 18 months with 60% “grand vin” in new barrel
Blend: 87% Merlot - 10% Cabernet Sauvignon - 3% CabernetFranc
Production: 45 000 bottles
Tasting: This vintage has freshness and power both on the nose and the palate. The nose is mainly black fruits, with some exotic fruit and liquorice notes. The palate is round and charming with mature dry tannins. The finish is very long with lots of freshness
