Located in Preignac, in one of the five communes making up the Sauternes appellation, the Bastor-Lamontagne estate belonged to the king of France until 1710 , the successor in Guyenne to the king of England, whose assets were stripped from him in 1453. When Vincent de la Montaigne, a counselorat in the Bordeaux parliament, bought Bastor Lamontagne in 1711, the estate was already largely converted to wine growing.

Though it is true that the La Montaignes helped to accelerate this conversion, the real wine-growing era began in the19th century with the Larrieu family, who were owners of the estate until 1904. In 1936, Château Bastor-Lamontagne was sold by the descendants of the Larrieus. 

Only the wines of the very best vintages coming from the finest terroirs and carefully selected for their rich concentration are bottled under the label of the first wine “Château Bastor-Lamontagne”. The wines of Bastor-Lamontagne display all the harmony of great Sauternes wines. They are lively and often show a floral bouquet with which aromas of honey and acacia flowers mingle subtly. Their power and complexity make them ideal wines to lay down. On the palate, they have remarkable balance, and the concentration is successfully underpinned by great aromatic freshness.
