Wine documentary explores China-Bordeaux love affair

An upcoming documentary will explore China's love affair with Bordeaux wine, aiming to uncover the reasons behind the country's obsession with Chateau Lafite and discover whether a price bubble could be on the horizon.

The Fine Wine Game will begin filming in Bordeaux this year, covering four seasons of wine production and beginning with the En Primeur tastings next month, Decanter reports.

Next, the documentary makers will travel to Shandong province, where Chateau Lafite owns 25 hectares of vines.

"We want to capture the scent and voice of Bordeaux; its wines, its people, and those that follow its progress with such energetic passion," producer Warwick Ross told the publication.

According to a survey by wine exhibition organiser Vinexpo, reported by the South China Morning Post, China is set to consume a bottle of wine per person every year by 2014, adding up to a staggering 1.4 billion bottles.

This would take China to sixth place in terms of global wine consumption.
