The first wine to be produced in the Italian city of Venice is to be offered to buyers en primeur.
Vinessa is taking its lead from Brunello di Montalcino, after its decision to sell en primeur sparked much interest in Italy and abroad, the Drinks Business reports.
The first six-bottle cases went on sale on October 1st, with 180 cases available at €210 (£183) each plus €60 (£52) on delivery until December 31st.
Further "lots" will be released in the new year, with a total of 700 cases set to carry the en primeur title, although delivery charges will increase as 2011 progresses and more cases become available.
Venissa, also known as lagoon wine, is produced from the resurrected grape variety Dorona.
A host of Italian wines from 41 different producers will be brought to a tasting event in London on October 12th.
The Dorchester Hotel event will also give enthusiasts the chance to speak to some of the country's most important growers.
