New research has suggested that Britain's fondness for fine Bordeaux and Burgundy may be growing.
According to findings from Wine Intelligence, wine enthusiasts are increasingly happy to spend a little more on wine to be drunk at home, the Drinks Business reports.
However, by paying more there has been an increase in conservatism, the research suggests, with buyers sticking to trusted labels with strong reputations, such as those from Bordeaux or Burgundy.
Richard Halstead, Wine Intelligence's chief operating officer, told the publication that it was too early to say that wine buying in the UK has recovered from the recession.
"But I think it's encouraging to see that through the recession UK consumers have not fallen out of love with wine. Indeed, there is even some reason to believe they love it a little more," he added.
Data from the Burgundy Wine Board and the Hospices de Beaune, reported by the Independent, recently revealed that Britain consumes more exported Burgundy than any other country, drinking around 13.5 bottles each year.
