Trade release for Champagne Laurent-Perrier Vintage 2002

Champagne Laurent-Perrier has announced that it will be releasing its latest Vintage bottle to the trade.

The Champagne house only bestows the Vintage tag on wines it feels are of truly excellent quality.

According to Harpers Wine and Spirit Trades Review, the vineyard has decreed that Vintage 2002 "captures Laurent-Perrier's signature style of lightness, freshness and elegance".

The Vintage 2002 is made from a 50 per cent Chardonnay and 50 per cent Pinot Noir blend, and is expected to have excellent ageing potential.

Laurent-Perrier UK managing director David Hasketh MW said that the wine had a depth of flavour while retaining a youthful freshness.

"I'd suggest pairing the Vintage 2002 with seafood such as grilled scallops or subtly flavoured fish including seabass, turbot or John Dory when served with a light sour cream sauce," he added.

The next 12 months could be a very good one for Champagne houses such as Laurent-Perrier, according Stephen Charters, Reims Management School's chair of champagne management.

He told the Drinks Business last month that strong champagne sales are expected throughout 2011.
