Top Italian wines could be as good or even better than some of the top wines in Bordeaux, according to Chris Smith, investment manager at The Wine Investment Fund.
Bordeaux wines have an enormous amount of history and will continue to be viewed as the best wines in the world for some time to come. This is indisputable. However, there are some wines in Italy that are as good or even better than some of the top Bordeaux wines.
Borolo is a good example, and investors of fine wine are increasingly looking to the Italian estate to find new fine and rare wines. Burgundy also offers up stiff competition for its French neighbour, with estates such as Domaine de la Romanee Conti or Rousseau proving to be equals.
Italy and Burgundy may not offer the same investment opportunities in terms of fine wine futures, but they will mature very well and are perfect for keeping in the cellar for a special occasion.
