Tasting in St Emilion
A wine journalist has concluded his five-day tour of
Bordeaux
2009 with a pair of blind tastings in St Emilion, the home of chateaux
Cheval Blanc
, Figeac and Angelus.
At chateau Canon, New Jersey Star-Ledger wine writer John Foy had the pleasure of tasting 11 2009 wines, of which he considered chateau Beau-Sejour Becot "extraordinary".
"Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot explodes with minty, blackberry aromas and flavours; it dances on the palate and keeps expanding with aeration," he wrote.
"A delicious, vibrant wine."
Mr Foy also tasted the wines of neighbouring Pomerol, describing chateau
Petrus
2009 once again as "extraordinary", but noting that he would need a win on the lottery to afford it. Chateaux Conseillante, Moulin and Clos du Clocher were also rated highly by the critic.
A chef and restaurateur as well as a former PriceWaterhouseCoopers accountant, John Foy has been writing and conducting classes on wine since the early 1980s.
