A new restaurant and bar celebrating the Super Tuscans of Italy, as well as the region's exquisite cuisine, is to open in London.
The venue, simply named Super Tuscan, is a joint venture between Nick Grossi and the well-known London-based importer, Grossi Wines, the Drinks Business reports.
It will open in Spitalfields, offering City clientele a "modern, relaxed enoteca feel". Guests will get the choice between enjoying antipasti and a glass from the 30-strong wine list in the bar, or opting for a full three-course meal in the 25-seat restaurant area.
All the food will be prepared by a husband and wife team moving over from Sicily specially to take part in the project.
Wines featured will include a number of top producers from the portfolio held by Grossi wines, including the Pian de Guardi Super Tuscan from Fattoria il Lago and Poiega Valpolicella from Roberto Mazzi.
There are even plans to introduce an Enomatic machine that allows customers to sample the wine list by the glass, while top Italian beers will also feature.
"I am delighted to be working with Super Tuscan as we share the same philosophy on sourcing the best Italy has to offer," Carlo Grossi, founder of Grossi wines, told the Drinks Business.
"It will be a perfect venue for us to showcase the diversity of our range introducing consumers to the best boutique wines from Italy."
Recently, leading Super Tuscan producer Marchese Piero Antinori claimed that the region's Rosso di Montalcino wines would be greatly improved by allowing new grape varietals.
He believes that lack of consistency offered by Sangiovese grapes grown in the region is holding the wines back.
