Romanee-Conti 1990 snapped up by Asian investor
This spring's auction of fine wines at Christie's Geneva achieved an impressive 99 per cent of lots sold from a selection including chateau Lafite-Rothschild, chateau Mouton-Rothschild and Romanee-Conti.
Notable sales included a six-bottle case of Hermitage la Chapelle 1961, which went to an Asian collector for €77,469 (£66,000) - the world record for an Hermitage La Chapelle sold at auction.
Meanwhile, five bottles of the rarely-seen Romanee-Conti 1990 also sold to an Asian customer for €57,082 (£48,600) and a 12-bottle lot of Chateau Petrus from the same vintage went for €44,850 (£38,200).
"With a clear predominance of European buyers, numerous participants from three continents competed to purchase one of the best selections of wines ever offered in a Geneva sale," commented David Elswood, head of Christie's wine department.
It follows last month's Christie's sale in New York's Rockefeller Center, which included rare vintages of chateau Latour and Yquem.
