Heavyweight wine critic Robert Parker has revealed the 20 Bordeaux wines he will sample at the forthcoming Winefuture event in Hong Kong.
The "Magical 20", which Parker will be tasting on November 8th, comprise the chateaux the journalist believes will be the ones to watch in the future, The Drinks Business reports.
Chateaux Cos d'Estournel, Pontet Canet, Pichon Lalande, Leoville Las Cases, Palmer, Haut Bailly and Angelus all appear on the list.
The wines tasted at Winefuture will be taken from the 2009 vintage - generally considered one of the greatest in history - and will mark the first public tasting of the wines since they have been bottled.
Representatives from each of the 20 chateaux will join him for a panel discussion of the wines, helping him to field questions from the audience at Winefuture.
Mr Parker told The Drinks Business: "I have chosen estates that produce wines of first growth quality, although technically not first growths.
"Consequently, they are under-valued and very smart acquisitions."
Pancho Campo MW, the organiser of Winefuture, said Parker's selection and tasting are likely to have an enormous impact on the value of Bordeaux wines in the Far East.
"Parker has chosen 20 wines he deems to have first growth potential. This could really shift the way that Bordeaux is traded in Asia," he added.
Taking place between November 6th and 8th at the AsiaWorld-Expo, Winefuture is organised by the Wine Academy of Spain.
The programme will feature discussions on wine economics, scaling up artisan wines, the trading situation in Asia and the future of sweet, fortified and dessert wines, as well as a number of tastings, dinners and parties.
Guest speakers at the event include the Financial Times' Jancis Robinson MW, Barbaresco producer Angelo Gaja, Michel Bettane, Miguel Torres and many more.
