Rare chateau Lafite Rothschild goes to auction
A US auction house is to put a collection of Bordeaux from a Boston cellar, including a 12-bottle lot of chateau Lafite Rothschild, under the hammer later this month.
On May 13th Skinner will offer more than 500 lots of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Italian, Spanish and New World wines including the dozen bottles of 1982 chateau Lafite Rothschild, which are expected to fetch up to $35,500 (£23,000).
Among many other wines from a variety of regions and eras, a four-bottle lot of 1961 chateau Petrus, one of the last examples of great old-style Bordeaux, will also be available to collectors.
"We are thrilled to offer the most impressive and extensive sale in our history of fine wine auction - from the finest Bordeaux to some of the most varied and intriguing group lots yet," commented Marie Keep, director of Skinner's Fine Wines department.
Also this month, May 23rd will see an auction at the Union League Club of Chicago featuring rare examples of Le Pin and chateaux La Clusiere.
