Praise for one of China's first fine wines
It may have some way to go before it is recognised in the same circles as Ausone and Petrus, but China's first micro-winery is generating interest in its native country and abroad.

Silver Heights, which can be found on Mount Helan in northern Ningxia, has won praise for its 2007 Cabernet blend, Malaysian newspaper Sin Chew Jit Poh reports.

The small producer is managed by Emma Gao Yuan, one of Bordeaux University's few Chinese female oenology graduates, who aims to show the world that China is as capable of producing fine wines as other countries.

"We need to take time, and go slowly, slowly," she told the news provider.

"I think we can make a fine wine similar in style to Australia or California, but never Bordeaux."

Agence France-Presse reported recently that the wine from Ma Qingyun's vineyard in Jade Valley is getting "rave reviews", while the government in Penglai has launched a wine tourism programme recently.
