Pontet Canet: A totally green chateau
The Pontet Canet is the only top chateau in Bordeaux to have gone completely green, using no artificial fertilisers or pesticides.

According to a report in the Independent, the owners of the chateau believe the ground in this part of the Haut Medoc has "magical properties", which produces better wine if left untouched by chemicals.

While places such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild may be using tractors on their grounds, Pontet Canet is now trying out horses dragging carts, fitted with lights and solar panels.

"An impacted soil is a less natural soil. A less natural soil produces less healthy plants. Less healthy plants produce poorer grapes. We have decided to experiment by bringing back horses," Alfred Tesseron, the proprietor and president of Pontet Canet, told the newspaper.

Pontet Canet has had an interesting past and was bought by Hermann Cruse in 1865.

He went on to build new cellars, and modernise the winemaking facilities.
