Described as the "world's most drinkable address" by Winston Churchill, the street where Pol Roger champagne is based in Eparnay is returning the compliment by naming itself after the British leader.
The Wall Street Journal reports that local authorities in France have redubbed 1 Rue Henri de Large as 1 Rue Winston Churchill, in recognition of Churchill's love for champagne.
Shortly after the liberation of Paris, Churchill was invited to celebrate with the British ambassador to France, during which he met Odette Pol Roger.
"We are thrilled to discover that Pol Roger has now moved house but curiously has remained in the same place," Pol Roger UK director James Simpson told the publication.
Next month, an auction during Cowes Week will feature one of Winston Churchill's half-smoked cigars, accompanied by the menu from the dinner at which it was enjoyed - which unsurprisingly included Pol Roger 1943 and Taylor's vintage port 1924.
