Highly-acclaimed New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs such as Cloudy Bay are undoubtedly superb wines, but one writer believes critics overlook the fact that the country also produces some fantastic Chardonnay.
In the Daily Telegraph, Victoria Moore said it seems unfair that Cloudy Bay gets all the glory when Craggy Range's Beaux Cailloux is "one of the country's best".
While it is tempting to make comparisons with white Burgundy, Ms Moore maintains that New Zealand's Chardonnay is "its own creature, distinguished by a piercing quality, like bright sunlight, that is one of the things that makes it such a pleasure to drink".
She added: "Unlike Sauvignon Blanc, where the focus falls so strongly on one region, New Zealand's Chardonnay story is also quite diverse."
