Now is the 'perfect time buy en primeur 2009'
Emerging markets in the Far East have helped to make now one of the best times in recent memory to invest in fine wine, one money advice site has claimed.
Though a pricey purchase at the outset, buying en primeur 2009 could well be the investment of the decade, according to Thisismoney.co.uk.
After acquiring a taste for fine wine relatively recently, Asian investors are now buying up stock "by the bucketload", sending prices of rare vintages skyrocketing.
Lafite Rothschild 2002, for instance, saw its value jump by 70 per cent in just six months, while the Mouton Rothschild 2004 made gains of 48 per cent.
"Fine wines are usually bottled and available for drinking three years after harvesting," the website advised.
"So anyone buying en primeur 2009 wine this summer still has two years to wait before their purchases materialise in bottled form."
Of course, wine investment is not for the teetotaller - appreciating a glass of red helps to ameliorate any losses even if an investment turns sour, Thisismoney.co.uk added.
