Symington Family Estates has announced that it will reveal a new packaging design for Cockburn's vintage port later this year.
Moving away from the current square-shouldered bottle, the new Cockburn's design will take inspiration from its first Special Reserve port from 1969, The Drinks Business reports.
Paul Symington, chairman of Symington Family Estates, said he wants to "do what BMW did to the Mini" and "reinvent the original version of Cockburn’s Special Reserve for 2011".
"It was iconic – and widely copied – and we thought going back to the original concept would give people comfort," he told the publication.
He went on to say that the quality of the port has also improved since Cockburn's was taken over by the organisation four years ago, describing it as "richer, darker and more concentrated".
Producers in Portugal's Douro Valley are expecting smaller yields this year due to adverse weather conditions over the past two months, according to Symington Family Estates viticulturist Miles Edlmann.
