The Institute of Masters of Wine is to host a special seminar celebrating one of the more often overlooked regions of Burgundy - Chablis.
Guests at the November 21st event will get to try some of the top Chablis wines from the last 30 years, including examples from Domaine Louis Michel, Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils and Maison Joseph Drouhin.
Chablis expert Rosemary George will lead the event, which will also feature guest appearances from Guillaume Gicqueau-Michel of Domaine Louis Michel and Fabien Moreau of Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils.
These two Chablis stalwarts will be running a seminar on the region's unique characteristics, using the classic 1995 vintage from the two producers as an example.
Panellists will continue discussions over four flights of wine, as the experts look to explore what it is about this particular region of Burgundy that gives wine its distinctive taste - taking in terroir, the use of oak barrelling, vineyard location and viticulture techniques.
Ms George says that she has long held a passion for Chablis, and wants to be able to transfer this enthusiasm to younger drinkers and wine enthusiasts who may not have been exposed to the region's wines.
She explained: "I don't think I shall ever tire of Chablis, and this tasting is a superb opportunity to explore its unique characteristics with two leading members of the younger generation in Chablis who can offer fresh insights into the wine."
"It is also a rare opportunity to taste mature vintages back to 1987."
Meanwhile, the institute's annual claret tasting takes place on November 9th.
The 2007 wines of the Grands Crus Classes properties of the Medoc, including the First Growths such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Latour and Chateau Margaux, will feature at the event.
