The latest wine auction from Sotheby's raised nearly £2.4 million for the auction house, setting a new record for the highest price paid for six magnums of Le Pin 1982 as it did so.
The Drinks Business reports that notable lots included Domaine de la Romanee Conti 1988, Petrus 1982, and Lafite 1996, although with a sale price of £80,500 - £20,000 above the estimate - the Le Pin was surely the star of the show.
A single bottle of Chateau Margaux 1985, a collection of 2.5-litre Marie-Jeannes and a case of Echezaux 1995 comprised the other highlights of the auction, which head of Sotheby's European Wine Department Stephen Mould described as "extraordinary".
Last week, the Financial Times reported that Hong Kong has cemented its position as the world's biggest destination for wine auctions, with some $123.5 million (£77.4 million) worth of wine sold there in the first five months of 2011.
