Latour consultant named Winemaker of the Decade
The consultant to some of Bordeaux's most respected chateaux, including Latour, Lafite Rothschild, Leoville-las-Cases and Cos d'Estournel, has been named Winemaker of the Decade by the Chinese Bordeaux Guide.
Jacques Boissenot, who along with his son Eric also advises Margaux, Mouton Rothschild and Ducru-Beaucaillou, received the commendation in a ceremony marking the tenth anniversary of the publication, decanter.com reports.
"It's a great honour and very moving for an old man on the verge of retirement," he told the website.
Decanter.com columnist and Chinese Bordeaux Guide editor Ch'ng Poh Tiong, who presented the award to Mr Boissenot, added: "Winemaker of the Decade may be a bold award, but I feel very confident because I have tasted his many wonderful wines again and again."
Mr Poh Tiong recently named chateau d'Yquem as Bordeaux's greatest growth, praising the 1996 vintage as "elegant, fresh and very long" and an "outstanding" accompaniment to blue cheese.
