Drinks company Lanson-BCC has looked into the possibility of purchasing Remy Cointreau SA's Piper Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck brands, it has been revealed.
Lanson-BCC, which already owns the Boizel and Lanson Champagne labels, is open to the acquisition "in principle", according to Bloomberg.
Chairman and chief executive officer of Lanson-BCC Bruno Paillard told the news provider that it had reviewed purchase documents, but is in no hurry to make a decision on any deal.
"Our growth wouldn't depend on buying Piper Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck. The group can make an acquisition, but it doesn't need it," he said.
Four bottles of Heidsieck were recently found on a 200-year-old shipwreck off the coast of Finland.
It is thought that each of the bottles could be sold for more than €100,000 (£84,000) when they go up for auction.
Examples of Veuve Clicquot and the now-defunct Juglar Champagne were also found in the wreckage.
