International Wine Fair awards 111 trophies
Some 111 of the world's finest wines have received top recognition from the International Wine Challenge at the London International Wine Fair (IWC).
Unsurprisingly, France once again took the top spot with 21 trophies, while Japan took away 14 in the Sake category and Australia ran third with 12 trophies.
Among the French wines to receive trophies were Cote de Nuits Villages Blanc 2008, La Grange des Combes 2008 and Burgundy wine Charmes-Chambertin "Les Mazoyeres" Grand Cru 2007.
Only wines that have already won gold medals at the event were eligible to receive a trophy, after being tasted against other wines in the same category by a panel of expert judges.
"The IWC has once again given support to the international wine market with these respected and influential awards," said Chris Ashton, director of the IWC.
"Winning a trophy or Great Value Wine Award gives a wine real prestige."
