Indian investors told to look at fine wine

Fine wines such as Chateau Mouton Rothschild and Chateau Margaux are an extremely attractive investment asset for buyers in India.

This is according to Ayesha Chenoy and Ishaan Ahuja, founders of investment advisory firm Drayton Capital, who told the Times of India that fine wine has proven itself to be recession-proof and can produce "spectacular" returns.

An Indian investor choosing fine Bordeaux would have seen a yield of 29 per cent per annum in the last five years, while the same investment in the Bombay Stock Exchange would have returned 18 per cent, the advisors note.

Yet they claim that the really key factor behind investment in fine wine is consumption.

"Fine wine is the only investible asset that is consumed daily and this is the main driver of dwindling supplies and rising prices," Ms Chanoy and Mr Ahuja explained in the publication.

Independent wine consultant Jennifer Simonetti-Bryan told Reuters recently that fine wine is similar to gold as an investment vehicle.
