The locker room of an NHL hockey team is an unusual place to develop a taste for Bordeaux wine, but that's exactly what happened to Mark Recchi.
Boston Bruins winger Recchi has been in professional hockey for more than 20 years, but picked up a taste for fine wine from Pittsburgh Penguins teammate Mario Lemieux in the early 1990s.
In an interview with Wine Spectator, Recchi describes how a little tasting soon led into a devoted passion and hobby.
Chateau Margaux is a particular favourite of his, having collected many 1995s, but a 1970 Chateau Petrus is the prize vintage in his 1,000-bottle cellar.
"I'm saving that Petrus for something special; I want to win another Stanley Cup," he told the publication.
Another celebrity wine enthusiast, musician Chris De Burgh, recently told Decanter that he will be selling his collection of extremely rare Bordeaux, because he simply cannot bring himself to drink them.
