Fish, chips and Champagne
Moet et Chandon Champagne and fish and chips may not seem like the most obvious food and wine pairing, but one New Zealand restaurateur begs to differ.

Ben Dodd, the owner of the Fish Kitchen in Auckland, has devised a special batter for his snapper that includes Moet et Chandon Champagne, before deep-frying the fish to perfection, the New Zealand Herald reports.

Together with a scoop of chips, the posh nosh costs NZ $38.50 (£17.60) - well worth the asking price, according to Mr Dodd.

It's "a rich man's drink with poor man's food," he told the newspaper, saying the dryness and bubbles of the Champagne complements the oily fish.

"If I ever get my liquor licence, when you order it, you will get to drink the rest of the bottle with the fish," he added.

Closer to home, premium catering firm Searcy recently announced plans to roll out its Champagne bar concept to a further 12 sites around the UK.
