Film charts quest to become Master Sommelier

A new film will finally reveal exactly what it takes to become a Master Sommelier.

Less than 200 people have ever passed the exam for this qualification, and Somm takes up the story of four hopefuls: Brian McClintic, Dustin Wilson, Ian Cauble and Dlynn Proctor.

It follows the four Americans - who variously describe themselves as "the new rockstars" and "prophets"- as they glug their way through Bordeaux, Burgundy and everything else in preparation.

Geoff Kruth, head of the Guild of Sommeliers, told Decanter that the film shows how the pursuit of a Master Sommelier qualification becomes all-encompassing.

Meanwhile, director Jason Wise told the publication that the reaction to the film has been fantastic.

"I have been overwhelmingly surprised at the response we've had since the trailer was released, with over 15,000 unique page views within the first two days," he added.

The feature also includes interviews with major wine producers, including Andrea Cecci of Tuscany and Bo Barrett of Chateau Montelena.
