Ten bottles of fake Bollinger Champagne have been seized from a trader in Locksbottom, after a wine expert tipped off Trading Standards.
An investigation revealed that five 75cl bottles of what was labelled as Bollinger Champagne and being sold for £30 actually contained cheap cava, while five 1.5-litre bottles on sale for £79 contained alcoholic fruit juice, News Shopper reports.
"This is a serious allegation, and our investigations are continuing," head of trading standards at Bromley Council Rob Vale told the newspaper.
"We take all reports of fake goods seriously and if anyone has suspicions about a particular product they can contact us."
Wine counterfeiters will find it harder to pass off their fakes in future, after a number of premium producers began adopting security measures to combat them.
Chateau Le Pin now prints its labels on banknote paper, while chateau Petrus uses year-specific bottle engravings and ultra-violet identification technology.
