After all the excitement surrounding the quality of the 2009 Bordeaux vintage, it seems the 2010 crop is beginning to excite the region's chateaux.
Decanter.com's Adam Lechmere spoke to Bordeaux proprietors at an exclusive dinner party held by the French ambassador for Chaine de l'Espoir, a version of the international charity Medicins sans Frontieres aimed at children.
Bordleais at the event were very excited, with Hubert de Bouard, owner of Saint Emilion's Chateau Angelus, saying that the growing season was perfect: long and with cool nights.
Veronique Sanders of Haut Bailly agreed, telling Mr Lechmere that the small, highly-acidic berries are set to produce another classic vintage.
However, negociants are not so happy it seems. While first growths such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Chateau Latour may sell whatever the circumstances, other chateaux will be reluctant to keep prices down and may struggle to find buyers.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the popularity of wine investment is prompting closer interest in Bordeaux's weather patterns among financial experts.
