English Wine Week: Explore the best the country has to offer
While many connoisseurs of fine wine in the UK may be used to looking to the chateaux of Bordeaux and Burgundy for their produce, a campaign launches this weekend (May 29th) to remind us of what grows in our own back garden.
It may not be quite as highly-regarded as Cheval Blanc or Domaine Laflaive, but English Wine Week aims to celebrate the high quality of produce now being made in the UK.
A number of vineyards, including Chapel Down in Kent, Denbies in Surrey and Camel Valley in Cornwall will open their gates to the public, inviting them to take guided tours and of course taste the best England has to offer.
The week of events, which runs until June 6th, comes just after three English producers celebrated winning four gold medals between them at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
"Competition is tough out there and to be recognized by the highly professional groups of judges at this international level certainly shows that our wines are world class," said Julia Trustram Eve, marketing manager of English Wine Producers.
