Social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook may be growing in popularity, but they are not the place to find out about the best vintages of Comte Lafon and Coche Dury, it seems.
According to research carried out by Wine Intelligence, half of regular wine drinkers in the UK use the internet for social networking purposes at least twice a week, although it is more popular with those aged between 18 and 35.
However, just one in ten of those use these site to chatter about their favourite tipples or find guidance from their friends.
"Our evidence suggests that, so far at least, wine has yet to develop the “killer app” to get itself talked about in this new world," commented Wine Intelligence.
The company's research director Jean Philippe Perrouty this year hosted at presentation at Vinexpo Hong Kong, where he said he was "impressed" by the inroads New World wines are making into the French-dominated market.
