Recent vintages from Oregon wineries contain a "handful of gems", according to a member of the judging panel for the recent Oregon Wine Competition.
In the Enobytes blog, Pamela Heiligenthal praised Zerba Cellars' 2008 white blend and 2007 red blend, while the 2008 Phelps Creek Vineyards and 2009 Stoller Vineyards' Chardonnays "rocked it" for the critic.
Meanwhile, Emerson Vineyards won accolades in the Riesling category. Ms Heiligenthal noted that "they continue to bring it year after year".
She added: "Another favourite was the '09 Pudding Ridge Riesling, which dances in your mouth with high and low notes – complex and pretty."
Other must-taste wines included Dry Hollow Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2009 and Cathedral Ridge Pinot Noir 2008.
The results of the Oregon Wine Competition were announced at Oregon State Fair on August 27th.
Among the gold medal winners were Amity Vineyards Pinot Blanc 2008, Shadow Mountains Pinot Noir 2007 and Stoller Pinot Noir 2006.
