Cos d'Estournel announces 2009 pricing
Chateau Cos d'Estournel, one of the most controversial wines of Bordeaux 2009, has announced the prices for its first wine.
The wine is being sold to negociants at €210 (£172) per bottle, meaning merchants are likely to be selling it to the public for around €300 (£246) or just under, decanter.com reports.
Cos d'Estournel is one of the lucky 18 chateaux to receive the near-perfect score of 98 to 100 this year from eminent critic Robert Parker, who described it as "one of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted – in the world".
However, not all critics are in agreement - the Financial Times' wine writer Jancis Robinson gave the "demanding" wine a much more restrained 16.5 out of 20.
Whatever the critics think, Cos d'Estournel is having no difficulty moving from the shelves in spite of its hefty price tag, with Fine + Rare describing it as a "perfectly judged price on a perfectly judged wine".
The chateau's second wine, Pagodes de Cos, has also been released but is selling a little more slowly than other producers' second wines, according to Fine + Rare's Simon Davies.
