South Africa is set to get its own chapter of the Commanderie de Bordeaux, representing some of the world's most prestigious and successful wine producers.
The Commanderie, which was established in 1952, is designed to uphold the standards and promote the various appellations of Bordeaux. Chapters exist all over the world, with 30 comprising 1,100 members in the US alone.
On August 24th, a ceremony at the Pierneef Museum will formally recognise the new Commandeurs of the South African chapter.
The ceremony will be marked with a tasting of wines donated by the 15 brotherhoods of Bordeaux, followed by a five-course dinner, the South African Times reports.
This month, Bloomberg reported that the tenth annual 20 Sur Vin wine competition at the cellars of Chateau Lafite Rothschild was organised by the Commanderie du Bontemps to promote knowledge about Bordeaux wines among future business leaders.
