Cloudy Bay Riesling to arrive on UK shores
Wine lovers in the UK are anticipating the first arrival of the 2006 Cloudy Bay Riesling, a brand which was launched in 2003 after the New Zealand winemaker experimented with a dry style.
Made from grapes sourced in the Brancott and Fairhall sub-regions of the Wairau Valley, the 2006 Cloudy Bay Riesling is the first vintage of its type to be sold in the UK.
Tim Heath, vintner at Cloudy Bay, said the wine has a style that is "hard to pin down", with all the hallmarks of a Marlborough Riesling and an added complexity lent by "hands-off" production techniques.
"The fresh aromatics belie the wine's age and the crisp acidity is beautifully counterbalanced by the merest hint of residual sugar," he added.
David Hohnen, founder of Cloudy Bay, last month hosted a four-course dinner at the Three Crowns Hotel in Chagford, Devon, where attendees were given an insight into the pairing of wines to food.
