Clos Dady of Sauternes, Bordeaux, sold to Russian investor

A Russian investor has bought the Clos Dady estate in the Sauternes region of Bordeaux.

In a deal worth €1.5 million (£1.28 million), Ilkham Ragimov has acquired the six-hectare Sauternes vineyard which produces the Chateau Les Remparts wine, Decanter reports.

The Moscow-based businessman is co-owner of the Russian capital's largest hotel complex, and is vice-president of the International Union of Lawyers.

Jerome Cosson will temporarily oversee winemaking at Clos Dady, and he told the publication that the wine will continue to be made in its own cellars.

"Mr Ragimov will be closely involved in all aspects. He is a wine lover, and intends to focus on quality, perhaps slightly lower production but increase the number of countries it is exported to," he added.

Chris Seeley, managing director of the AXA Millesimes group which owns Chateau Suduiraut of Sauternes, believes that the region's wines are currently better than they have ever been, which could make Mr Ragimov's investment a shrewd one.
