Chef applauded for bottle that decants

A Michelin-starred chef has revealed an innovation in wine packaging to the world, which claims to do away with the decanter to make sure that no valuable last drops of Chateau Lafite go to waste.

Martin Berasategui has already received an award in Paris for the bottle design, which features a small chamber at the bottom, allowing the sediment and impurities to be trapped separately instead of ending up in the glass.

Jose Manuel Moure of Adegas Moure Winery told the Guardian newspaper that he will use the bottle for a new premium wine, in which the sediment is able to filter naturally in oak barrels.

"We will not get a perfect filtration and so are likely see a deposit build up," he commented.

"These bottles are designed so that it does not get swept into the glass."

As well as coming up with innovations in wine bottles and racks, Martin Berasategui is famous for his restaurant in San Sebastian.
