Herve Berland has announced his retirement as managing director of top Bordeaux estate Chateau Mouton Rothschild.
Berland has been with the Baron Philippe de Rothschild firm for more than 30 years, joining in 1977. This group is charged with the running of Mouton and two other Pauillac estates, Chateau d'Armailhac and Chateau Clerc Milon.
The expert became co-managing director in charge of sales and communication in 2006, overseeing the Bordeaux brand's bid to gain a foothold in the growing Chinese market.
He told Decanter about his time with the estate: "It is a privilege to work for these estates. Not only because of their beauty and their heritage, but because of what they bring out in all of us who work with them."
His role will be taken by Herve Gouin, currently marketing director of Rothschild France Distribution.
As part of its marketing strategy, Mouton commissions a famous artist to create a label for each new vintage. The 2009 bottle features a design by British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor.
